What happens right before this scene?
Before this scene in the play, Mrs Linde comes round and agrees to med Nora's costume for her. And at this time Nora tells Mrs Linde that Dr Rank is sick with a disease, which then Mrs Linde guesses that Dr Rank is the mysterious source of Nora's loan but Nora denies this. And then after this Mrs. Linde remarks that Nora has changed since the previous day. Then once Mrs Linde is hurried out to go and sew the costume Torvald enters, Leaving Nora alone with him in which she asks him to save Krogstad's job. However it has already been decided that Mrs Linde will replace him. After Torvald explains why, Nora says the reasoning is petty which makes him upset and send off the letter dismissing Krogstad and go off to his study.
Where have I come from before this scene?
I have just been in the living room talking with Torvald.
Why is this scene important to the play?
This scene is important to the play as it shows the relationship that Nora and Dr Rank have, and shows her dying friend confessing his love to her which makes her very startled, But it shows us that Nora has appeared to be leading on Dr Rank. But despite this Nora's actions do not seem to change much towards him.
